What I do get, is that the writers want to take the audience on this journey showcasing every detail about transitioning to a vampire. That I get. But almost the entire TVD fanbase is already annoyed with Elena, because half of them want her with Stefan and the other half with Damon.
I am not in that majority because I don’t care about Elena either way. Keeping that in mind, was Elena really the best choice to convey all these difficulties? Wouldn’t it have been so much more fulfilling to use a character that people actually care about and are invested in? Caroline, anyone? Even TYLER after becoming a hybrid would have been a better choice? And I don’t care about him at all, but I like him better than Elena! Yet both of them seemed to master it fairly quickly with limited handholding and coddling. UGH! Even Abby, after having to give up being a Witch, handled it better than Elena has. This whole Elena is a special-wonder-kind vampire doesn’t endear me to her anymore than I was when she was human and now it’s just pissing me off. Because all I see is the characters that I’ve grown to love bending over backwards to help her like they were doing before she was turned into one of the deadliest killers in folklore. I just want to shake her and slap her repeatedly and yell “SUCK IT UP!” And for every thing that is Holy under a Nun’s habit, spin off the Originals already so I don’t have to watch any more of The Special Vampire Diaries!
